Battlestar Galactica

There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. That they may have been the architects of the great pyramids, or the lost civilizations of Lemuria or Atlantis. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens...

And it is that epic struggle of good versus evil, right versus wrong, or could it simply be the fight to survive and perpetuate an idea, a civilization or species. It is that clash of the titans that we will examine here and now.

The first casualty of this ongoing struggle was none other than last weeks champion, Carl Agathon, call sign "Helo". His performance over the past weeks, particularly last week, made him an early favorite. But this night would seal his doom as he was taken out early and left the battle to be marooned on Caprica.

The CAG for Galactica, Lee Adama, call sign "Apollo", did better this battle than in battles past. His Viper was damaged early on, however, and he just couldn't keep it airborne.

Manning his post during the battle, fervent in his duties, Lt. Felix Gaeta succumbed to injuries received and was taken to sick bay.

The life of a resistance fighter is never easy. Fighting with limited resources, taking from the enemy the supplies needed just to stay alive, leading a disorganized para-military unit, Samuel T. Anders still manages to come out on top, most of the time. But not this night, not this battle.

Still on top after last night's bloody fight, President Laura Roslin has proven she's not a quitter. Anyone able to handle the Quorum of 12 can take on a squadron of Cylons. Taking defeat in stride, she vows revenge!

Tom Zarek. What else need be said. Cold, calculating, taking his time, weighing the cost before committing to action. Second only to the President, Tom requires a watchful eye.

Colonel Saul Tigh, XO of Galactica and close friend & confidant of Commander Adam. Drunk, power hungry and married to a wife that drinks more and craves more power than even the colonel. Many thought tonight would be his once again. His previous 3 victories led to tonight's history making event, yet he was unable to claim supremacy for a fourth time. Perhaps Ellen, his wife, persuaded him to sacrifice himself for the sake of the fleet. Not likely!

Genius, egotist, master at self preservation, Dr. Gaius Baltar took a huge lead going into the final 3. It was widely anticipated that he would easily cruise to victory. But the combined efforts of one Admiral Helena Cain and one Commander William Adama proved too much to overcome.

Commanding the Battlestar Pegasus and demanding respect at any cost, the mere mention of Admiral Helena Cain strikes fear into the hearts of most. Except for one man.

Commander William Adama, affectionately known as "the old man", having seen too many battles, survived too many close calls, proved once again that underestimating him or his beloved Galactica comes at a high price. It may have been months since he sat atop the heap but counting the old man out will always be a mistake.

Fleeing from the Cylon tyranny, the last Battlestar, Galactica, leads a rag-tag fugitive fleet on a lonely quest -- a shining planet, known as Earth.

The night by the numbers:

10. Helo - Justin - 1 x 3 = 3
9. Apollo - Ish - 2 x 3 = 6
8. Lt. Gaeta - Jake - 3 x 3 = 9
7. Sam Anders - Dustin - 4 x 3 = 12
6. President Roslin - Bobby - 5 x 3 = 15
5. Tom Zarek - Chris - 6 x 3 = 18
4. Col. Saul Tigh - Mark - 7 x 3 = 21
3. Dr. Gaius Baltar - Devin - 8 + 4 = 12 x 3 = 36 (including Mark's 3 bounty points and Justin's 1 bounty point)
2. Admiral Helena Cain - Lisa - 10 + 2 = 12 x 3 = 36 (including 2 bonus points for straight flush)
1. Commander William Adama - Jeff - 12 x 3 = 36

Next week things settle down, back to normal. Until then, may all your cards be live and your pots be monsters!
